Well a lot has happened in this past week, so I have a lot to share (I'll try to keep it short!). It's been an artsy week for me so this post is all about art!
1. Art Hop
I must start with the mention of Art Hop. As you know from previous posts, June Art Hop was this past Friday and it was faaaaantastic. If you haven't already, read more about that here! Seeing different expressions and displays of art really got my gears rolling. Being in the sunshine with some wine was also another plus ;)
2. Stencils
I also started working on some Alfred Hitchcock stencils for a friend's birthday present and they turned out beautifully for my first attempt at stencils. Jesse and I painted some canvas the other night and today we spray painted the stencils on. I love doing art projects outside, especially with my favorite man ;) I began to get a little experimental with the backgrounds and then I went a little stencil mad. Needless to say I got some good work done today! (I'm a little reluctant to post a picture in case my friend reads this before we give him his present, but I will anyway. Casey, if you are reading this, act surprised!)
3. Guerilla Postcards
I had an idea from my guerilla art book (the one from this post) to make some original postcards and mail them out to some friends for an experiment. Basically, the recipients can alter/add to the postcard and then mail it to someone else, then that person does the same thing, and so on. You can read more about it here =) I thought it would be a fun experiment to see how each postcard changes from the original with the influence of other art styles. Plus, it is a fun way to create some buzz, reach people that I wouldn't be able to otherwise, and get connected with others in the US.
(Side note- anytime I think or read guerilla lately, I think of the Magilla Gorilla music video "I've Got a Gorilla for Sale".)
4. Printmaking
OH MY GOODNESS! I started my class at the KIA last night and I fell completely in love. I was so excited and eager to get to work. Our first project is relief printing using linoleum as our matrix. I brought my sketch book and some ideas with me but the drawing I used for the postcards above was still fresh on my mind. We were supposed to just play around with tools and get a feel for the equipment, so I did just that. I was pretty proud of my first print! And it was hand pressed...
(That means I had to use my arm muscles.)
5. Photography
I started playing around with my Nikon D7000 this week and I am anxious to start some serious shooting. I played around with it the other day but I'm itching for some full on extravaganzas! I think my first opportunity will be my sister with her dance recital outfit. Muhahaha ;)
For now, meet Cougar.
Art is consuming me! I have so many ideas and so many things to work on! I also want to share how I make some of my projects, with you, my fellow blog readers! Much to do, much to do! One last thing before I sign off...I have to mention how wonderful it is to have Jesse around me and my art nonsense. He is very encouraging and he truly gets excited and is amazed at what I create. Sometimes I think he is pulling my leg, but he is very proud of me and I can see it on his face. I LOVE to see that on his face =) He might have to fight with my sister for my number 1 fan spot!
Later Gators!
xoxo
PS I thought I posted this, but I hit the wrong button and only saved it! Now it's technically Friday! Does it still count as a Thankful Thursday, since I haven't gone to sleep yet? I think so...
